Foxnut Chutney : Thangjing Malta meh : Hot Foxnut Salad

Euryale ferox  or Foxnut or Lotus seeds also known as Makhana in Hindi and Punjabi and locally known as Thangzing/Thangjing in Manipur. The plant produces starchy white seeds that are edible.Puffed lotus seeds are also eaten as snack, or made into kheer. It has both nutritive as well as medicinal uses. In Manipur it is cooked or eaten raw as a side dish.

Todays recipe is Thangzing Malta Meh a salad a hot side dish chutney prepared with Sapmalta (king chili/Ghost Chili)

Ingredients

Thangzing/Foxnut

King chili/ Ghost Chili

Fermented Fish

Onions

Coriander

Salt to taste

 

How to Prepare?

~roast or burn the thangzing cover so that it is easier to remove the seeds.
~take out the seed and keep in a clean bowl.
~Lightly roast the fermented fish ans set aside.
~ roast the King chili and pound them with fermented fish and salt.
~cut the red onions in to desired size.
~Mix all the ingredients and garnish with coriander.

Its easy and simple to make, and is the favourite  seasonal side dish for me.
